Last September I was very lucky to be invited to the Dermalogica Headquarters in Los Angeles where I also got to attend the Dermalogica Fast Forward Symposium for 2012.
My trip included 4 nights stay at the famous Loews Hotel on Santa Monica Beach. The hotel was situated right beside the famous Santa Monica Pier & Muscle Beach!
On day one I attended the Fast Forward Symposium. Here I attended conference talks from a lot of inspiring people who have worked for Dermalogica for many years. These people included Annette King (Director of global Education), Dan Ginsberg (CEO previously worked with Red Bull) & Dr. Dianna Howard (V.P. of technical Development & global education).
The most inspiring talk of the day & most exciting was from Jane Wurwand herself! Jane is the founder of Dermalogica.
Jane (originally from Edinburgh!) opted out of college to attend beauty school. Jane then emigrated to the U.S. and started the International Dermal Institute with her husband Raymond in 1983. Her goal was to train professional skin therapists and focus on skin health not beauty. Three years later, the couple started skincare company Dermalogica based in Carson, California.
Today, their products are sold in more than 28,000 salons and spas in 86 countries.
Jane's talk was the most exciting for me & I felt she really related to myself as a business owner & therapist within todays industry.
On day two I was taken to Dermalogica's Headquarters. Whilst there I was given a tour of their offices, demonstrations on new products & treatments & I even got to see where all the products are packaged.
That evening we were treated to a Cocktail Party on the rooftop of Andaz Hotel in Hollywood. Here we enjoyed lots of cocktails & canapés. The view from the top of the hotel was amazing where we looked out over all the famous celebrity houses!
On day three we were given a tourists view of Hollywood from an open top bus. During the tour we were taken to where the Oscars are filmed, seen some celebrity homes & taken to Venice Beach. We even caught a glimpse of American Idol being filmed! To end the day we were then taken to the famous shopping village The Grove. That was when I did some serious shopping!
Many of you that visit the salon will know how inspired I have been by my visit to LA & on meeting Jane Wurwand. I truly feel that my time there has helped to shape my business into what it is today. Without continued support from all our clients & from Dermalogica as our leading brand within the salon, I would never have been fortunate enough to go on this trip.
Thank you very much!

After carrying out a recent survey, one major request was to have a Physiotherapist on-board with us. A lot of our clients suffer from persistent back ache, sciatica, sports injuries & other aches & pains that can only be treated by a physio.
Richard at Enrich Physio uses a combination of hands on, manual therapy techniques in conjunction with progressive exercise therapy. Richard's focal treatment modalities include joint mobilisation and manipulation, specific soft tissue and neural mobilisation and progressive exercise therapy. In addition, Advance Physiotherapy Services in some instances use acupuncture which can be used as an adjunct to treatment or as a course of treatment on its own, usually for pain relief.
Richard will be in our salon on Wednesday's & we are looking forward to working with him.
Book your appointments by calling us on 01968 676093 or 07834237011.

Dermalogica's new addition to their Age Smart® range is finally on our shelves - SkinPerfect Primer spf 30.
Until now, most primers have focused on the cosmetic benefits to make-up application, rather than helping to improve the overall health of the skin. Many cosmetic primers contain comedogenic waxes and fillers that can lead to congestion, skin irritation and even sensitivity. Others tout skin care benefits but fail to deliver and sometimes leave the skin looking chalky.
Skinperfect primer spf 30 delivers sophisticated cosmetic benefits for a flawless surface and Age Smart® treatment benefits for your most radiant, healthiest skin ever.
Three benefits in one product...
Radiant, even skin tone:
Velvety silicones help even skin texture, creating an instantly smooth surface. Hydrolyzed Pearl Powder and natural earth minerals provide a neutral tint, suitable for all skin tones, to enhance luminosity and radiance.
Invisible sun protection:
Modern dispersions of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide (physical sunblocks) provide Broad Spectrum UVA and UVB defense without the chalky, whitening and drying effects so commonly associated with SPF products.
Powerful skin treatment:
As part of the AGE Smart® system, SkinPerfect Primer spf 30 contains ingredients known to fight the biochemical triggers that lead to skin aging, including Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS, also known as free radicals), Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) and Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs).
The feedback that we have had from our clients using this product have been fantastic! Make sure you ask one of our skincare therapists for a sample the next time you are in.

Would you like to know more about your skin but are too scared to ask?
As Skincare Therapists we regularly get asked questions about Teen Skin & what triggers breakouts.
I thought I’d bust some of those myths!
Myth 1: Food can trigger breakouts!
False: Many people still believe the myth that chocolate, chips and other fatty foods are causing their skin to break out. Although this is not entirely true it is a misinterpretation. These types of foods don’t directly cause acne but they may encourage the breeding ground for acne by increasing sebum production.
Myth 2: Blackheads are just dirt inside my pores!
False: Blackheads (comedones) are whiteheads that have changed colour through the process of oxidation.
Oxidation is merely a chemical reaction happening in your skin. When the pore opens up, oxygen enters, causing the oil and dead skin cells within the follicle to undergo oxidation. This ultimately is the blackhead that you see on your skin.
Myth 3: Toothpaste dries out Acne!
False: Quite the contrary: Dermatologists say that heavily flavoured toothpaste, or toothpaste with high levels of fluoride, can cause breakouts to arise. Save your toothpaste for your teeth!
There are many myths surrounding teen skin and acne so we are here to help you bust those myths!
Join us in the salon for a lesson on your skin care routine at our Skin Bar. Every teen that visits our Skin Bar in January and February will receive a FREE Clean Start kit containing 3 products to start you on your skin care journey.
Here's to a Clean Start!

It's that time of year again that we all wish that we hadn't had the leftover turkey or extra piece of Christmas pudding. Not only does our body feel the strain but so does our skin. Our skin can feel very lack lustre and dull during the festive season due to all the extra calories and alcohol we consume. In the salon our clients tell us about the changes in their skin and often ask us what they can do to get back on track?
Well here are a few tips to keep your winter skin healthier:
When cleansing use tepid water only.
Heat may be appealing when it's chilly outside, but hot water contributes to dehydration. Avoid really hot baths as the steam and heat can contribute to the symptoms of roseacea.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!
This is essential for your skins daily needs. This will help to guard your skin against the elements and form a shield of hydration.
Take time to cleanse properly.
Your skin continues to produce sebum and waste products even in these cold winter months so cleansing is always the first step to optimum skin function. Cleanse face and body with a gentle botanicals-based liquid cleanser, pat dry (don’t rub), and apply moituriser from head to toe.
It's time to cut down on the alcohol!
Alcohol seriously dehydrates our skin so it is really important to cut back and top up on your water intake. Not only will this help to flush out your system and internal organs it will also help with weight loss and rehydrate your skin.
Visit us for a skin health check up.
In the salon we carry out Face Mapping for FREE! Our Dermalogica Skin Therapists will diagnose your skin’s concerns and prescribe a no-nonsense home care and treatment regimen to deliver your optimum skin health in your 14 unique zones. You will receive a professional consultation that reveals your skin’s past, present and healthiest future.
I wish you health & happiness in 2013!
